| Abstract: | The effect of a seven day yoga program was evaluated in patients with hypertension and Type 2 diabetes. Eleven patients with hypertension (group mean age ± S.D., 54.5 ± 10.5 years) and six patients with Type 2 diabetes (group mean age ± S.D., 49.8 ± 9.9 years) participated in the study. Heart rate variability (HRV) and state anxiety were assessed on the first day and last day of the camp. There was a significant increase in the mean R-R interval (p<0.05) and a significant reduction of state anxiety (p<0.01) in patients with hypertension. The results suggest special benefits of a seven day yoga program in hypertensives with respect to autonomic balance and state anxiety.
