| Abstract: | Dr. George Kurian passed away suddenly after a brief illness on September 10, 2005, in Patiala, Punjab. In his untimely death, the field of psychology has lost one of its most productive and brilliant thinkers. Dr. Kurian was born on August 15, 1954, in Kerala. He took his Bachelors degree from the Union Christian College. Dr. Kurian worked from 1987-1991 as a Research Associate at the Institute of Yoga and Consciousness, Andhra University. He then moved to Punjabi University, Patiala, where he was appointed as a lecturer. The Indian Institute of Technology at Kanpur invited him as a Visiting Assistant Professor for a period of one year, after which he returned to Punjabi University and worked there from 1994 to 1997. Thereafter, he joined the faculty of the Thapar Institute of Engineering and Technology in Patiala, where he worked till he breathed his last. As an academic, Dr. Kurian will be best remembered as a man of great intellect, a man blessed with a breadth of perspective, and depth of thinking. To those of us to whom he let himself be known, we will remember him as one of the few who chose to see the world more honestly. We share a deep sense of loss, and an overwhelming gratitude that he touched our lives. (PsycINFO Database Record (c) 2012 APA, all rights reserved) |
