Abstract: An innovative treatment model was designed and implemented, which integrated short-term dynamic therapy and yoga. The 12-week treatment model was applied to three clients suffering from anxiety and/or depression. Each client was seen twice a week, one session in psychodynamic therapy and one in individualized yoga. Quantitative and qualitative data analyses were performed to investigate the process and treatment effects of this dual approach. The cases were presented in detail, analyzed, and discussed within the framework of Fishman's Pragmatic Case Study method and Messer's assimilative integration model. Both quantitative and qualitative outcome measures indicated varying degrees of improvement, some highly significant, in symptoms of anxiety and depression as well as interpersonal functioning. The process of treatment revealed that assimilative integration occurred, as predicted, in that each of the modalities substantially altered the other through being utilized in concert. A key treatment component was identified, namely, groundedness in bodily-experienced affect. Implications of the results and directions for future integrative psychotherapy treatment and research were discussed. (PsycINFO Database Record (c) 2012 APA, all rights reserved)
