| Abstract: | Reviews the book, "Modern Psychology and Ancient Wisdom: Psychological Healing Practices from the World's Religious Traditions," edited by Sharon G. Mijares (see record 2003-02876-000). This is a very interesting book. Psychotherapists present religious doctrine and show how it is applied to case material. In order, Buddhism, Christian mystic healing, Goddess spirituality, Kabalistic healing (Jewish mysticism), Native American psychospirituality, Sufism, Taoism, and Yoga (Hindu) are set forth. The book can be read as a primer in certain religious principles. The quality of writing varies from smooth narrative to clumsy didactic instruction and invocation to higher ideals. The least believable of the chapters is provided by the editor, who also provides the introductory and closing chapters and a short introduction to each chapter.
