| Abstract: | Research on yoga therapy intensely focuses on the outcome variables. The contribution of subjective factors, such as individual attitudes and expectations, is more assumed than measured. Thus, this article reports on two studies conducted to develop and validate a yoga attitude scale. Study 1, which included a sample of 121 yoga practitioners and non-practitioners (mean age 36.5 yrs) supported the scale's item validity and its discriminative power. Study 2, which was conducted on another random sample of 99 practitioners of yoga and non-practitioners evaluated the internal consistency and discriminant validity of the scale. The implications of this measurement tool in the yoga intervention studies is discussed. (PsycINFO Database Record (c) 2002 APA, all rights reserved) |
