| Abstract: | (from the chapter) Describes results obtained from an early version of the Smith Intercentering Inventory (SII). The SII is a measure of recalled relaxation states. Ss included 3 groups of 70 junior college students assigned to groups for progressive muscle relaxation (mean age 23.59 yrs), yoga stretching (mean age 22.62 yrs), and breathing relaxation (mean age 22.35 yrs). The experimenters first explained that a standard 30 minute relaxation tape would be played followed by a simple one-page questionnaire. Relaxers appeared capable of recalling what relaxation states they experiences in a 30-minute relaxation exercise. Furthermore, relaxers appear capable of reporting meaningful sequences of states. |
