Abstract: Examined the effect on anxiety and hostility of yoga nidra meditation, a psychic sleep in which the body sleeps and the mind remains awake. 27 individuals (aged 19-50 yrs) completed questionnaires concerning hostility, and hyper, symptomatic, predisposing, and trait anxiety before and after practicing yoga nidra 1 hr daily for a 15-day period. Results show significant reductions in anxiety for those Ss experiencing hyper anxiety; no reduction was observed concerning Ss experiencing little anxiety. The effects of yoga nidra meditation on hostility were similar to those for anxiety. It is concluded that yoga nidra is a useful technique of relaxation that can be used to manage emotional problems.
