Abstract: Few organs in the human body were less understood two decades ago than the pineal gland. Now our perception of pineal gland function has attained newer dimensions. After melatonin hypothesis, it has emerged as a major neuroendocrine transducer with specific effects on circadian rhythms, sleep mechanisms, sexual behaviour, geomagnetism, psi facilitation and siddhi or psychic abilities which are reviewed in this article. It is considered that these psychophysiological functions of the pineal gland are as notable as that of the pituitary gland's functions. In esoteric fields like yoga and parapsychology, pineal gland's functions look mystic and quite fascinating; and it can be called as the gate way to perfect harmony between body and mind.
