| Abstract: | Yogic systems of Indian learning and culture are essentially psychological and psychophysical disciplines and constitute the Indian counterpart of contemporary Western psychology. Despite numerous variations and specialized differentiations, both agree that mind is a form of consciousness, bahirmukh (outer-directed) and thus essentially related to environment, and that there is a self-existent consciousness, variously called atma, purusa, etc., which is the central fact of personality.
