| Abstract: | Purpose. The purpose of this study was to examine the impact of these learning experiences on enhancing creative attitudes in third, fourth, and fifth grade elementary students. Procedure. The study utilized the method of experimental design which employed the investigation of seventy-five subjects after they had been divided into a control group (38 ss) and an experimental group (37 ss). The study involved the administering of the Group Inventory for Finding Creative Talent (GIFT) as a pre- and post-test instrument. Prior to the implementation of the creativity enrichment program all seventy-five subjects were administered the GIFT instrument. Findings. The results indicated that the null hypothesis was retained showing no significant differences on the test scores between the experimental and control groups after the completion of a program to enrich creative thinking abilities. The data were analyzed by calculating the mean scores of the pre- and post-tests (GIFT) of the control and experimental groups. In order to allow for initial differences in creative attitudes which may have occurred between the two groups, an analysis of covariance was applied to adjust post-test mean scores of the two groups. Conclusions. Some factors may have contributed to the null hypothesis being retained: (1) a short class period to implement the program, (2) the class period following lunch and recess, and (3) the non-traditional, open classroom environment. Recommendations. (1) A follow-up study of this study to see if those students who showed enthusiasm regarding creativity have retained that interest; (2) Replication of this study with a longer implementation period; (3) A study examining the effects of yoga and relaxation on enhancing creativity in elementary school students. |
