| Abstract: | Describes the different types of therapy offered by an Italian day hospital (DH) for psychiatric patients. Formerly regarded as a bridge between an outpatient clinic and a psychiatric institution, the DH now provides an intermediate space between the patient's subjective world and the collective world of the "sane." Most DH patients are schizophrenics. Patients participate in various psychotherapeutic programs, including meal planning and preparation, arts and crafts, autogenic training, yoga, psychomotor communication, and most, significantly, psychodrama. The DH functions like a collective psyche to devise new solutions and creative psychotherapeutic strategies.
