| Abstract: | Studied differences between high- and low-rigid female undergraduates in learning a list of paired associates immediately after learning the 1st list. An initial group of 200 Ss took the Test of Behavioral Rigidity; extreme scorers participated in the learning experiment. Three comparable paired-associate lists of nonsense words, with 10 items in each list, having similar meaningfulness values were prepared. A within-Ss design was used with an experimental series with interference and a control series without interference. Analysis showed a significant difference between high- and low-rigid groups: Ss with high rigidity scores tended to show greater perseveration in learning verbal material. They also exhibited higher retroactive inhibition than Ss low in rigidity. (10 ref) (PsycINFO Database Record (c) 2002 APA, all rights reserved) |
