| Abstract: | Discusses varied evidence suggesting that the mind of a psychic healer may act as a lens or transformer in focusing or applying healing energies with the aid of visualization. It is suggested that visualization can help healers transcend the limiting anticipatory and perceptual feedback loops in several fashions: They may serve to focus attention, as in meditation, allowing both the relinquishing of sensory reality and accessing of other levels of reality; they may become conditioned keys to entering a healing-conducive state; they may release healees from self-perpetuating images of illness; and they may impose wellness images or templates upon the mind and/or organizing energy fields of the healee, which then bring about physical changes in the body. The personality characteristics of healers are discussed, and some aspects of the physiology of visualization are described. (114 ref) (PsycINFO Database Record (c) 2012 APA, all rights reserved) |
