Abstract: Discusses the Indian word ausar ("the proper moment") as it appears in the Sikh scriptures and its importance in the psychotherapeutic process. Psychotherapists have long recognized the value of timing in such matters as resolution of resistance, handling transference, providing interpretations, and termination. Ways in which therapists can bring about ausars are discussed, as are their recognition of and response to ausars. Three examples of ausars in the clinical process are described, involving a 49-yr-old female schizophrenic, a 32-yr-old female manic-depressive, and a 32-yr-old male yogi.
