| Abstract: | Conducted a study with 35 experienced, new, and promoted police officers to test the following hypotheses: (a) Enhanced cognitive control resulting from meditation practices results in greater relaxation and concomitant rise in GSR; (b) cognitive control in the form of meditation practices reduces choice reaction time; and (c) Ss practicing cognitive control in the form of meditation will have increased perceptual awareness. Three psychophysiological measures were obtained—GSR measuring arousal in terms of autonomic reactivity, choice reaction time to measure alertness and sensory discrimination, and span of attention to measure Ss' range of attention to dots. Results support the hypotheses. (PsycINFO Database Record (c) 2012 APA, all rights reserved) |
